The New York Women in Communications Inc. Foundation recently awarded Allison Latini from Massapequa, bordered by Massapequa Park to the south and east, one of its 22 scholarships.
Latini attends the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca Collage as an Integrated Marketing Communications major.
Each year, the scholarships are given to female students at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels who reflect financial need and academic excellence, and are committed to the field of communications, with the intent of pursuing a career in the field.
Latini received her award at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City at the annual Matrix Awards, an event of the communications industry. Andy Cohen emceed the event and Katie Couric, Liz Kaplow, Gloria Steinem, and Bonnie Hammer, previous winners of the Matrix Award, also attended and presented at the event.
Dean of the Park School, Diane Gayeski, commented that women are still not adequately represented in media, whether they are behind or in front of the camera. However, there are distinctive opportunities at the Park School for female students to prepare themselves to become a part of an industry that will be more inclusive.
The Park School might consider using a poster printing company to create something that can be displayed throughout the premises announcing the accomplishments and determination of Latini.
