Starting today, the South Huntington Public Library will begin hosting the exhibit ‘Faces, Inside and Out’ by Chuck Von Schmidt.
The exhibition features works in a variety of mediums including paintings, wall sculptures, mezzotints, and paper constructions. Von Schmidt was inspired to create these works following the Taliban's destruction of two giant Buddha statues in 2001. All of the various pieces are Buddha sculptures and skulls created from materials that represent the ancient Silk Road, such as insect wings, iron, and silk.
Von Schmidt studied at Cooper Union and Brooklyn College, where he received his BFA and MFA respectively. He later returned to be an instructor at both colleges, as well as becoming a visiting lecturer for the Rhode Island School of Design. His most famous work is a 2004 commission from the Pave the Way Foundation for a piece entitled “The Ideals of Aaron”. He later presented this piece to Pope John Paul II personally.
Organizers for the exhibition may want to contact Print companies to create Flyers so that they can advertise for it. Flyers distributed in nearby towns like Huntington, Melville, or Hicksville could notify people living in the area that this show is going on and draw in a greater attendance.
This afternoon sees a reception for the opening of Von Schmidt's exhibit at the South Huntington Public Library. The reception will run from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and attendees will be able to meet Von Schmidt personally. His works will be on display until March 27.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Flyers
