Last month, a Hicksville event brought together testing, awareness, and a love of motor vehicles in a way that can help save lives.
Axalta Coating Systems, which makes both powder and liquid coatings, teamed up with the annual Long Island ‘Cruizin' for a Cure’ event. In association with the Winthrop University Hospital, the event provides a showcase for about 750 classic cars that are seen by more than 4,000 visitors. While they admire the vehicles, attendees could also have on-site screenings for prostate cancer. The event helped raise awareness of the disease and saves lives.
This year, the show was held in Hicksville, at the Sears Auto Center on September 20. As in previous years, thousands of visitors came to admire the antique, collectable autos, which came in a huge number of colors.
Event founder and chair Sandy Kane thanked Axalta for its support, and noted that corporate participation has made the event a success overall. For its part, Axalta spokesperson Lisa Miree-Luke said the company was happy to support such a worthy cause.
Event organizers could build on this year's success by working with a brochure printing company to create a mailer for residents, discussing the show and the screenings, and reminding them to watch for the date again next year.
