Hicksville fundraiser still stands after more than a decade

A charity fundraising event launched in partnership by a Hicksville company boss celebrated its 11th year last Monday, November 24, with 20 business professionals literally up for the fight.

Matt Silver from Hicksville's Ultimate Class Limousine Worldwide was one of the founders behind The Long Island Fight for Charity, which has thus far raised more than $850,000 for Long Island charities, with both men and women stepping into the boxing ring to continue generating cash this year.

The event, hosted at the Hilton Long Island in Melville, saw around 1,000 people watch the event, with a poster printing campaign getting as many to come as possible. With banner printing in evidence on the night too, local Print companies clearly did their bit.

The event itself may have been the showcase, but it was actually the final play in a long preparation of training for the volunteer pugilists. Making up at least 100 hours of training per person over a number of weeks, it also cost each fighter $5,000, as a minimum, to get involved

Also taking part to help make the event a success were 25 local restaurants and drinks firms.

Founded in 2003, the Long Island Fight for Charity was set up by a trio of business pros wanting to help charity organizations in LI. Joining Matt Silver in the set up were Jeff Cohen and Jamie Austin.
