Hicksville folk enjoy family fun

Hicksville residents recently gathered to have old-fashioned fun at a carnival.

According to an August 6, 2015 news item, the annual Our Lady of Mercy Family Carnival drew a large crowd who enjoyed live music, rides, drinks, food, and games. People came from all over Hicksville to take part, and waited in line for snacks, drinks, and rides, while enjoying the music of The Dukers, who performed classics from the ‘50s and ‘60s, as well as swing music.

The younger children were able to enjoy a feeding and petting zoo, pony rides, and games suitable to their age.

Long-time Hicksville resident Bart Grossjung said he and Peggy, his wife, have been attending the carnival for years, and say it draws a great crowd. The event, which is five days long, is a huge draw for people in the town and throughout the area.

Anthony Labriola, another Hicksville resident, said people who came to the fair were bound to run into people they know, and added that everybody in town knows about the carnival. Saturday night brought out the teenagers, who enjoyed seeing friends from other schools around town.

Feedback about this year's fair has been positive, and event planners could build on this by working with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents, thanking them for coming and asking them to save the dates for next year.
