East Meadow welcomes new restaurant

Foodies in Hicksville and the nearby area have a new national cuisine to try – Colombian.

They can drop in at Luna Cabana, which has taken over the space previously occupied by Mi Cabana. The sign in front indicates the restaurant is serving ‘Colombia-American fusion’, meaning diners can find not only Colombian dishes, but also American classics like wraps, Caesar salads, and hot wings. The sign also says ‘parking in the rear’, which is good news for patrons, since the restaurant is on the Hempstead Turnpike.

Colombian specialties include rotisserie chicken, beef empanadas, and huge combination platters such as the bandeja, which offers grilled steak with fried egg, arepa (a ground maize dish), avocado, sausage, pork rind, and sweet friend plantains, along with beans and rice. Another option is picada, which consists of bite-sized pieces of fried yucca, pork rind, steak, sausage, fried green plantains, and fried potatoes.

The restaurants in this spot prior to Luna Cabana were mostly Italian eateries; the one that was open here just before Luna moved in was Sacramone's, which left behind a coal-burning oven that has proved to be interesting to diners.

Service companies like this can benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can create handouts for distribution at the location during its opening. If the restaurant includes coupons on the flyer, it might increase business by inviting people in to try a new cuisine.
