Police officers and other first responders in Wall Township recently brushed up on their autism awareness and discovered more about coping with the challenges that helping someone with this condition may present.
The instruction provided gave those who took part an increased knowledge in the issues that can come up when assisting someone with an autism spectrum disorder. This can range from difficulties in communication to the need for understanding and patience when dealing with an individual with this issue.
Those who participated in the training were also taught what Signs could indicate that someone has autism, even if they are nonverbal and cannot communicate this fact themselves. This can make it easier to give that individual they help that they may need. Booklet printing can be used to prepare handouts and other materials for a seminar such as this.
The instruction took place through the months of March and April, and was facilitated by Fran Hines, who works on a part-time basis with the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office. He also holds the position of trainer in autism awareness with the New Jersey Department of Health and is himself the parent of a child with the condition.
Police officers, emergency medical technicians, communications officers, and other first responders all took part in the training, which they can put to use in their day to day work.
