A Secaucus area venue that utilizes fun activities to introduce the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects to young and old alike has a morning of discovery on offer for area tweens.
The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center has teamed up with DNALC NYC @ City Tech in Brooklyn for a workshop that will explore the difference in cell structure between people and plants. It is intended to be a drop-off event, so parents or guardians do not need to accompany their child for the class.
During the session, participants will find out how plant cells have rigid walls while animal cells do not, and they will learn about other differences as well. They will gain experience in using microbiological stains and microscopes, and if there is enough time, they will have a chance to view some of the microorganisms that call Prospect Park Lake or the East River home. Tickets for the function are $26.32, which includes taxes and fees.
When activities use hands-on fun to introduce the STEM subjects, providing the participants with handouts and other materials may encourage them to keep on learning, and these can be sourced from Stationery printers.
This tween-friendly introduction to some of the basics of cell biology is scheduled for November 12. It is set to begin at 10:00 am.
