The farm-to-table movement has grown in popularity in recent years, and those who call Secaucus home can get in on the fun, albeit on a smaller scale.
Van Vleck House and Gardens offers the public a variety of learning opportunities all year long, and its Garden to Table workshop will be for families who would like to learn more about where their food comes from.
Families will tackle a variety of chores, including planting, watering, and harvesting the bounty, and everyone will be invited to get their hands dirty. It is aimed at kids ages four and up, and each needs to have an adult with them at all times. Both members and non-members are encouraged to take part, and the registration fee for a family starts at $15 each. Space in the sessions will be limited.
Gardening offers kids an early introduction to the natural world. Activity Books and garden Journals for kids, paired with promotional Pens and other items that can encourage them to get their hands in the dirt, can be crafted by area printers.
This in-person introduction to gardening from the ground up will begin on March 26. Sessions have also been planned for April 9, June 4, August 1, and August 15. Each must be signed up for separately, and they will all be held at 21 Van Vleck Street in Montclair.
