No-cost Red Bank drug store opens soon

The Ritesh Shah Charitable Pharmacy will be opening in Red Bank and will be the first free medication drug store in New Jersey.

It will focus on providing medications that are more commonly used such chronic conditions as diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, and mental health. The drug store will have about 185 medications available.

Ritesh Shah, pharmacist and founder of the drug store, said that uninsured customers whose annual earning are no more than three times the federal poverty guidelines of $12,880 for an individual and $26,500 for a family of four will be able to get their prescriptions filled at no charge.

The new pharmacy is located at what was once the Shrewsbury Avenue Pharmacy. The building was built by Shah in June 2017. The pharmacy is on the ground floor with the upper floors having four apartments. The pharmacy will be managed by Shah’s wife, Asha, who is also a pharmacist. Shah said that customers will need to fill out a form to establish their eligibility to receive free medications.

The pharmacy will also be offerings free vaccinations to children, including the flu shot. Shah is considering stocking and also giving out free over-the-counter medications.
