Manalapan to hold memorial 5K

Gordons Corner Fire Company has joined with Manalapan Township to create the inaugural First Responder 5K Run/Walk in early October.

This event has been created to show appreciation for those who were affect by the events of 9/11, which reaches its 20th anniversary this Saturday.

Registration is $25 and can be arranged on the event’s website. T-Shirts sporting the event’s Logo Design will go to those who register before next Wednesday, September 15. Participants will receive medals when they cross the finish line. Both participants and spectators are asked to wear orange, red, or blue.

The run will begin at the Manalapan Police Headquarters, 120 Route 520 and end at the Gordons Corner Fire Company Firehouse, 683 Tennent Road. Awards will be handed out at the post-race ceremony and light snacks will be provided.

Proceeds will go to benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Gold Star Family Home, and Fallen First Responder Programs.

Parking will be available at the beginning of the race at the Manalapan Recreation Center, and at the end of the race at the Towne Point Shopping Center. A shuttle will be available for the return trip back to the starting line for those runners opting to use the Manalapan Recreation Center Parking lot.

The First Responder 5K Run/Walk will take place Sunday, October 3 starting at 8:00 am.
