It’s that time of year when our local history buffs relive the Battle of Monmouth at Monmouth Battlefield State Park. The two events will begin with the reenactment and continue on to the Commemoration weekend. The battle reenactment is done this time of year because the original battle was fought June 28th, 1778.
The reenactment at this, the original Battlefield Site, will be carried out by members of the British Brigade, the Continental Line and The Brigade of the American Revolution. Hundreds of troops will be found in the park as they recreate battle scenarios throughout the weekend. This living history event will have army encampments depicting those during the Revolutionary War. Officers will be holding drills, soldiers will be cleaning their muskets and a few recruits may be playing cards.
The Annual Commemoration weekend will have lectures, presentations and camp tours. There will also be a sutler area. For those of us who don’t know what a “sutler” is. It is those people who follow the army to sell items to the soldiers. All of these activities will be open to the public. There will be a food vendor on site, also.
History buffs enjoy taking pictures of events such as these to local Stationery printers to be made into personalize Stationery and Postcards.
2019 Battle of Monmouth Reenactment will be June 15th and 16th at Monmouth Battlefield State Park. Commemoration Weekend will be June 22nd and 23rd at the park.
