Manalapan lets good times roll

Manalapan and other towns around Monmouth County will get a couple of opportunities to celebrate Mardi Gras in late February.

Ashbury Park is holding its fourth Mardi Gras in late February. Undecorated masked can be picked up from noon until 4:00 pm at Backward Glances, 658 Cookman Avenue, and decorations for them can be collected from participating downtown businesses. Glue will be available on tables at the Shops at the Arcade.

From 3:00 until 7:00 pm, guests can purchase Mardi Gras cocktails and Japanese-type festive food at 660 Cookman Avenue at Taka.

The Masquerade Ball will run from 5:30 until 9:30 pm at 601 Main Street at the Saint. During the costume contest, the Queen and King of the Ball will be crowned. Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door.

Another ball on the same evening will be Mardi Gras by the Shore. This inaugural event will be from 8:00 pm until 12:30 pm at 210 5 Avenue, and proceeds from the evening will go to the Brian Holland Legacy Foundation. In lieu of the traditional Krewe parades, local businesses and associations will sponsor tables and decorate them according to this year’s theme, which is ‘Favorite Shore Town’. The event will have its own version of traditional parade “throws” that will consist of personalized Promotional Products.

Revelers will be attending the Ashbury Park Mardi Gras on February 23 starting at noon in Ashbury Park.
