Very shortly, the State of New Jersey, along with the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield, will commemorate the anniversary of the historic Battle of Monmouth by holding a reenactment.
Presented over a two-day weekend, this year’s event will open its camps to the public. Battalion and company will hold a drill in the camp. Outside the Visitors’ Center will be tactical demonstrations. A children’s wooden musket drill will be followed by an artillery drill, while a program entitled ‘Over here Molly Pitcher’ will be shown in the Visitors’ Center amphitheater.
The British army formation and the March to Battle will precede the march from the Continental army formation. The reenactment of the battle will then take place. The second day’s events will have roughly the same schedule.
Two army encampment s will be set up that will duplicate army life in the colonies and in the British camps during the 1770s. Soldiers will be cleaning their muskets, women will be preparing food, some officers will be holding drills, and others will be planning battle strategies.
Pictures taken during the day may make good subjects for later Stationery printing or possibly poster printing.
The event will be held June 18 and 19 at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, 347 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Manalapan. Camps will open at 9:00 am.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
