Manalapan area starts Halloween early

The Manalapan area will be celebrating Halloween starting at the end of September.

Halloween Spooktacular will begin with the annual Placing of the Cornstalks around Freehold Downtown on Saturday, September 30 beginning at 8:30 am. Volunteers will be gathering at 51 West Main Street in Freehold to place the donated stalks.

All Manalapan Halloween aficionados will want to either take part in creating and acting out live-action scenes like zombie cheerleaders, or getting their tickets for the Haunted Hayride. Guests can expect to see horror movie characters following the hay wagon with chainsaws. Refreshments and activities will be available to those waiting in line.

Hayrides will begin at the Welles Fargo Parking lot, 72 W Main Street, on October 15 at 1:00 pm.

A little closer to Halloween itself and taking place in Downtown Freehold, the Monster Mash and Jack-o-Lantern Contest will be an evening of spooky music for dancing, games, prizes, Halloween-themed activities, face painting and a decorated pumpkin contest. These festivities will take place Saturday, October 21 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Hall of Records.

The finale will be the highly anticipated Costume Parade. Everyone is invited to participate either in the parade or as a spectator. A costume contest will be held, and refreshments will be available at the Hall of Records parking lot afterward. The parade will begin on Main Street at 1:00 pm on October 29.

Pictures of contest winners in Halloween parades often go to local Print shops to be added to the town’s tourists’ guides.
