Manalapan area celebrates St. Patricks Day

Manalapan Irish will be heading to Freehold for Irish Week.

Presented by the Freehold Borough Arts Council, Downtown Freehold and local Hibernians, Elks, and Knights of Columbus, the 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off in Freehold on March 15th.

Community groups, non-profits, businesses, high school bands, and pipe and drum corps will be lining up at McLean Street, marching on East Main Street, in front of the Hall of Records and reviewing stand, and proceeding on to Bennett Street. Units are to line up from noon until the parade steps off at 1:00 pm.

Parade units in St. Patrick’s parades like this usually get banner printing done so they can introduce their unit to the spectators with shamrocks and green lettering on their Banners.

Although registration for the parade is free, the arts council suggests specific donation amounts from $25 to $2000 depending on type of entry. For example, Non-profits are asked to donate $25, businesses $50 and pipe and drum units $1500.

At 2:30 pm, after-parties will begin at the Elks Lodge and the Colombia Club. These should wind down around 6:30 pm.

On the 17th and 18th, Downtown Freehold will feature 2020 Irish Week Flavor of Freehold. This two-day event will be walking tours where Shamrock Passports will guide guests from one participating shop, bar or restaurant to the next. At each stop, tourists will receive samples of the place’s signature food or drink.
