Locals to take running and walking challenge
Runners and fitness enthusiasts here in Manalapan are invited to take the NEPTUNE: Weathering the Storm Challenge. This will be a virtual year-long running and walking challenge beginning any time in 2021.
The online group will be totalling the mileage accumulate by all runners during 2021. The goal is to amass 2.75 billion miles, which is the distance from the Earth to Neptune. The purpose of the event is to get people moving.
When they register, participants can choose 100, 500-, 750-, 1000-, 1500-, or 2021-mile distances they intend to complete. They can then choose their own locations, times, and pace at which to cover the distances in as many times it takes. Any mileage a Neptune runner piles up from any of the other 100 Virtual Run events can also be added to the individual’s total.
Registration fees will depend on swag; for example, registration will only be $9.99 for a digital bib that can be printed from home. An actual bib and decal come with a $19.99 fee; a T-shirt or medal only fee will be $45.00, and the full package of a bib, medal and T-shirt sporting the event’s graphic design will cost $54.99. Runners that use the discount code PATCH can get a 25% discount when they sign up on the Manalapan Patch local events page.
The event will benefit Feeding America and this year’s goal is $50,000.
