Library to present jazz performance
November is ‘Jazz Month’ and the Claudio Roditi Brazilian Jazz Quartet’ will be closing the month in Manalapan with a discussion and music from Roditi’s latest release ‘Simpatico’, among other selections of his lyrical repertoire. The event will be free.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Roditi has been playing his trumpet and flugelhorn here in the United States since 1970. He has played with the likes of Herbie Mann, Tito Puente, Mario Bauza and McCoy Tyner.
In 2009, his album ‘Brazilliance x 4’ received a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Latin Jazz Album’. ‘Simpatico’, released in 2010, is a compilation of 12 original compositions by the performer. He has since released another album entitled Bons Amigos in 2011.
Many songs that are included in this album were also written by Mr. Roditi. The artist is known for his combination of Brazilian bossa nova, samba, and post-bop jazz. Along with Claudio, the quartet consists of Helio Alves on piano, Leonardo Cioglia on bass, and Duduka da Fonseca on drums.
