The State of New Jersey, DEP and Friends of the Battle Monmouth will be co-sponsoring an annual Battle of Monmouth re-enactment. The re-enactment is scheduled as close as possible to the date of the original battle which was fought June 28th, 1778.
This two-day event has activities before each day’s “battle.” Tactical demonstrations will be conducted on the battle area. The children’s wooden musket drill will be at the Visitor Center flagpole. An artillery drill and children’s cannon drill will be presented on the plaza. The amphitheater will present “Over Here Molly Pitcher” program.
The two-day commemoration of the anniversary of the battle will also have activities. Children’s cannon drills and the “Over Here Molly Pitcher” presentation will be on each day. A walking tour of the battlefield will be on the first day, and a tour to the battlefield’s north side will take place on the second.
The afternoon will feature a 4th Connecticut regiment Living History encampment. History buffs take pictures of this activity for later poster printing.
The re-enactment is scheduled for 2:00 until 2:45 pm on Saturday, June 17 and from 1:30 pm until 2:15 on Sunday, June 18th at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, 347 Freehold-English Road, Manalapan.
The Commemoration of the 238th Anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth will be June 25th and 26 starting at 12:30 pm in the park.
