Annual battle reenactment returns

Friends of Monmouth will be bringing their annual reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth this weekend.

On Saturday, June 3, there will be a tour along the route taken by the British to the battle. On Sunday, a walking tour of Parsonage and Hedge Row will begin at 1:30 pm at the Visitor’s Center.

June 10 will take participants on a driving tour along the route taken by Lafayette from Cranbury, to Hightstown and on to Robbin’s Tavern in Clarksville. The driving tour on June 11 will take visitors to Ponolopon Bridge, where Americans made camp 24 hours before the battle of Monmouth.

The weekend of June 17 (from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm) and 18 (from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm), encampments and programs will depict the life of both Americans and British soldiers. Some activities will include Continentals and British drills and parades, Continental camp tour, mounted horse demonstrations, children’s musket and cannon drills, and battle reenactments.

Special programs will be held on June 24 (from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm) and 25 (from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm) in the form of the 245th Anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth. These will include a children’s cannon drill, a presentation about Molly Pitcher, a battlefield walking tour, and a fife and drum program at the Visitors’ Center.

Manalapan attendees can get souvenirs featuring the 1778 American flag graphic design at the gift shop from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on June 25.
