Hohokus event to help feathered friends feel welcome

Birds can add life and excitement to a garden, and a Hohokus presentation is set to help invite them into local green spaces.

As a NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist at Lorrimer Sanctuary, Mary Birrer has a considerable interest and experience when it comes to making a garden wildlife friendly. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge during the Gardening for Birds lecture, which will be part of the October meeting of the Hohokus Garden Club.

The event will run for one hour, and it will explore various ways of making birds feel welcome. Birrer will discuss species ranging from robins to raptors, warblers, and many others that may be found in area gardens, and she will also explore how to use plant choice and other methods to attract them. Another subject covered will be how choosing the right flora provides berries and other foods, while also drawing insects for the feathered friends to eat.

Many gardeners love attractive wildlife, and if they sit in on a class, workshop, or other learning activity, they can find out how to make them feel welcome. A brochure printing company can prepare handouts and other materials that offer even more details.

The Hohokus Garden Club will be welcoming Mary Birrer on Monday, October 28. The event will be held at 400 Warren Avenue, beginning at 7:30pm.
