Hohokus area planning soft pretzel making class

Oktoberfest celebrations have become a popular way to welcome the arrival of fall, and an upcoming class will see Hohokus home bakers enjoy soft pretzels along with their beer.

Baking Coach Lisa Basina will be sharing her pretzel-making expertise with a group of learners online. To help make it even easier, the registrants will be able to pick up a kit of ingredients that will allow them to prepare four of the salted treats.

Using the ingredients provided, the students will be invited to follow along online as Basina walks them, step by step, through the process of preparing and forming dough into the traditional pretzel shape. The kits will include everything needed except for butter and water, and after they have been mixed, rolled and shaped, they can be baked in a home oven.

The ingredient kits will be available for pickup at the Maham Public Library, and a supply fee of $5 will be charged to each registrant. Stationery printers can supply cards printed with the recipe and baking instructions to include in each kit distributed during this type of function so that the participants can prepare the dish all on their own.

The Mahwah Public Library has made arrangements to hold this virtual activity on October 6. The kits can be picked up from September 24 until September 28.
