What's Happening in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ…

Hamilton hysteria comes to Hohokus

The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Hohokus is putting together a new program meant to combine a popular Broadway musical with historical events.

‘Hamilton: the Musical and the Duel’ is a look at one of most important times in our nation’s early history and the music that was inspired from it.

Alexander Hamilton was the Secretary of the Treasury under George Washington and founder and proponent of the national bank system, as well as one of the founding fathers. He was famously killed in a duel with former vice president Aaron Burr when he ran for governor of New York and Hamilton campaigned against him. The musical is a slightly fictionalized accounting of his life, focusing on the relationship between Hamilton, Jefferson, and Burr.

The event will include a run of the Hamilton mixtape performance that was given at the White House, as well as a booklet printing running through the major characters and songs from the musical. Afterwards, a brief presentation will be given on the factual history of Hamilton’s life and his famous duel in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Hamilton: the Musical and the Duel will be held on February 2 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Worth Pinkham Memorial Library, located at 91 Warren Ave. Admission is free to the public. Anyone looking for more information should contact the library directly.
