DIY shoe retailer arrives in Nordstrom

A new concept in purchasing recently arrived at Paramus in the Garden State Plaza Mall, just a short drive from Hohokus.

‘Shoes of Prey’ is a ‘do it yourself’ shoe studio where shoppers, whose size may not be in stock or the styles of the season are not in line with their personal taste, can design their own footwear.

According to the Executive Vice-President and General Manager of Shoes for Nordstrom, Scott Meden, this partnership is line with the store’s goals of providing the best service and experiences for its customers.

Shoes of Prey is a studio in the shoe department with a wall showing some of the styles and options from which customers can select. There is a table of iPads for designing shoes, with an app developed by the company for picking the color, shape, and heel height of the desired item. Boxes containing swatches of more than 170 materials will be nearby, so customers can play with them and get a feel for how the different combinations and textures work together. There may also be printed instructions provided by a local print company for those who need help with using the software.

Assistance through the shoe designing process is provided by stylists. Once customers have finalized their design and made their purchase, the shoes are made to order and sent to customers’ homes within four weeks.
