Caldwell session to explore honeybee care and culture

Both native and introduced bee species such as honeybees face a variety of threats, and Caldwell residents who would like to learn more about what they can do to lend a hand may want to register for an upcoming workshop.

Adele Barree, a retired librarian who moonlights as a beekeeper, will be sharing the knowledge she has pciked up about bees over the past 12 years. While it will be focused on honeybees, the likes of bumblebees, digger bees and other native species will be in the mix as well.

During the discussion, Barree will talk about the various threats such a habitat destruction, parasitism by mites and pesticide use that impact bees, and what the public can do to make a difference. She will also touch on the art of keeping bees in urban and suburban areas. At the end of the session, everyone will be able to do some taste testing of a selection of honeys harvested in the state.

Hosting continuing education events is often one of the roles a library plays in a community. Printed agendas can be prepared by Print shops to send out to area households so that they will be up to date about what is going on in their hometown.

The Madison Public Library will be offering this workshop on June 21. It will begin at 7:00 pm, and advance registration is mandatory
