Caldwell area celebrates inaugural Chinese New Year event
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Xian Zhang, will present its first Chinese New Year Celebration Gala early in February.
The concert will blend Western and Eastern musical traditions. Music from Western composers will include Verdi’s ‘Anvil Chorus’, Beethoven’s ‘Choral Fantasy’, Puccini’s Madam Butterfly’s ‘Humming Chorus’, and the ‘Jasmine Chorus’ from Turnadot.
Chinese traditional music will include ‘Spring Festival Overture’ by Li Huanzhim, the traditional dragon dance, the ‘Triple Resurrection’ by Tan Dun, and several traditional Chinese songs.
Before the performance, the Prudential Lobby will be holding a Year of the Pig celebration. Families can enjoy calligraphy demonstrations, traditional Chinese music, and crafts. Adults get champagne at the reception.
Immediately after the concert, an elegant dinner will be held in the Chase Room with special guests, including Zhang.
The gold, silver and bronze dinner sponsorships include the company name and logo design on advertising materials, in the event journal, and on the NJSO digital slideshow and website. All proceeds from this event will go to support the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
The NJSO Chinese New Year Celebration Gala will be at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, 1 Center Street, Newark on February 2. The pre-concert festival runs from 6:00 to 7:00 pm before the concert begins at 7:30 pm in Prudential Hall. Cocktail attire is requested.
