Arts center continues online events

Caldwell patrons of the arts can still enjoy events at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center at 1 Center Street, Newark, which is making its events virtual for January.

Next Tuesday, January 12, jazz violinist Regina Carter and NJPAC President John Schreiber will give a presentation called, “A Salute to Ella in Stories and Song.” The two will discuss Ella’s impact on jazz and Carter will play some of the singer’s extensive repertoire. The free Zoom performance will start at 7:30 pm.

On January 18, a free virtual discussion of the film “Boss: the black experience in business” with panelists Kai Campbell, Stanley Nelson, Lyneir Richardson and Denise Woodard, will explore how contemporary black business leaders starting as far back as Madam C.J. Walker have built their companies.

A screening of the film will be available online a week in advance. The discussion will be on a Zoom video conference starting at 7:00 pm.

Musician Jeff Daniels will give a live virtual performance on January 2, presenting material from his new “Alive and Well Enough” album. Daniels will answer questions sent in during the performance in an after-show Q&A.

Finally, on Saturday, January 30 at 7:00 pm, George Marriner Maul hosts a free special Zoom presentation of Rachmaninoff’s Movement 3 Piano Concerto No. E in D Minor, Op.30.
