Fish to be focus of pond tour

The third annual Charlotte Pond Tour will be held by the Piedmont Koi and Watergarden Society this month.

Those in the Charlotte and surrounding areas, including Pineville who enjoy breeding, keeping, and exhibiting koi and goldfish will certainly want to attend this special event.

The ponds included in the tour are one belonging to Don and Mary Ann Penix from Mint Hill, five ponds in the Harrisburg area, one in Albemarle, and one in Charlotte itself.

According to Brannon Raines, President of the Wartergarden Society, the tour will be interesting to both experienced koi keepers and those who are thinking about starting the hobby and making their own ponds. It gives people the chance to see what the hobby is all about and to enjoy the fish, ponds, and plants.

The Society meets on the second Saturday of each month at the homes of club members in Charlotte and the surrounding counties, arranging opportunities to eat together and enjoy the ponds. It also holds field trips during the year and in the past has put on koi shows and sales. Printing companies in Charlotte may contribute to promoting the activities of the Society.

The tour will be on June 20, starting from AJ’s Restaurant in Harrisburg and run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Tanks of koi and goldfish will be on display in addition to those in ponds.
