A new defense facility of General Motors (GM) is now opened in Concord.
GM Defense was awarded a contract of $214.3m in June 2020 to build its new Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), which will be produced at the facility. Expected to manufacture 649 ISVs and over the next eight years, the facility will support the production of up to an additional 2,065 vehicles.
This is the first award of importance for GM Defense since its establishment as a subsidiary in 2017 and will help to grow the economy and create jobs, many of which may require business card printing services, in the region.
Richard Hudson, a United States representative, expressed his excitement over Concord with the opening of this new GM Defense facility. He added that with help with Hendricks Motorsports, the ISVs produced at the facility will help to keep the troops safe and to mobilize them. Hendricks Motorsports has extensive experience in developing race cars in high-risk, high-load environments, to support defense applications. The company will be providing the chrome-moly steel exoskeleton of the frame of the ISVs.
The architecture of the Chevrolet Colorado truck model ZR2 of 2020 is the basis for the ISV. The ISV weighs 5,000lb and was engineered to provide rapid ground mobility, and fulfill many other requirements of the military. It has a Rollover Protection System, which makes it sufficiently agile on any battleground.
