International food service company opens new location

Gordon Food Service recently cut the ribbon on its new distribution center near Concord.

The new facility in Kannapolis is now up and running, and many dignitaries were on hand for the ceremony, including the state governor, the mayor of Kannapolis, the company CEO Jim Gordon, the company’s President of U.S. Distribution Scott Nicholson, and Gordon Food Service Carolina Division General Manager Mike Sprenger. They were treated to an opportunity to get a closer look into how the facility, which is slated to start shipping in April, will operate.

Even though it is not yet shipping, the location already provides employment for more than 75 people, and it is hoped that when it is fully operational and working at full capacity at the end of five years, it will have more than 270 employees form the surrounding communities.

The dignitaries who were on hand for the event all noted that they were pleased to see the company’s willingness to invest in the state, and that they look forward to a local partnership that benefits both the economy of the area and the people who live there. There will likely be spin-off benefits for other businesses, such as Print companies, who can produce everything the new facility will need, from Letterheads to Business Cards and Banners.

Gordon Food Service currently has 25 distribution centers across North America, with 17 of them being in the U.S.
