A project to give away 300 trees through the Energy-Saving Trees program is soon to take place in the city of Concord through the Energy-Saving Trees program.
The Creation Care team at All Saints’ Episcopal Church and the city of Concord, working with Carolina Power Partners and the Arbor Day Foundation, will be undertaking the project. Concord is the first municipality in the state to join the program.
Homeowners in the city and customers of Concord Electric Systems may reserve trees by filling out a form online. The types of trees which are being offered include Blad Cypress, Red Maple, Tulip Poplar, Shumard Oak, and Sourwood. Trees are available on a first-come, first served basis.
Local Print shops can play a role in informing the community about such programs with Flyers, Posters, and mailers sent to residents.
One tree per homeowner or customer can be reserved to be planted in a strategic area, as identified on the mapping tool, which is also online. This tool is designed to help maximize the air, water, and energy for a tree and remove the guesswork of where to plant the tree. Carefully positioned trees can reduce the energy consumption of a household for cooling and heating by up to 25%.
