Event combo to light up the area

Here in downtown Concord, the Park and Recreation Department is about to hold two events in one with the running of its Streetlight 5K and free family-centric Firefly Frolic Festival.

Against a backdrop of music provided by Southern rock band Watts Left, attendees can play games, work their way up the climbing wall, and enjoy inflatables and arts and crafts. The Firefly Frolic takes place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the day and is free to the public.

In the midst of the Firefly Frolic Festival, the USATF-certified Streetlight 5K will start and finish on Means Avenue in downtown Concord. The 5K takes place at 7:30 pm and runs through McEachern Greenway, before moving on to the Downtown Connector Greenway. Prior to the 5K, a free one-mile Fun Run will be held at 7:00 pm.

Registration is required for both races and those who have preregistered, either in person at 147 Academy Ave. NW or at the Department’s website, will get a T-shirt and goody bag. Pre-registration will end on July 4, and race day registration will start at 6 pm. Those who wait until race day to register are not guaranteed T-Shirts or goody Bags.

This event will provide local merchants with numerous promotional opportunities. With printing services being able to provide everything from Flyers bearing coupons to Promotional Products. The Firefly Frolic and Streetlight 5K are scheduled for Friday, July 11.
