The welding program of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has been expanded to its South Campus in Concord.
A new lab has been built with space that will be able to offer interactive instruction to students. It is a state-of-the art lab with virtual reality welding machines. A variety of welding processes will be taught to students so that they will have many opportunities for employment. Cabarrus County contributed $330,000 of the cost of $674,500 for renovating the space that once was the home of the motorsports program of the college.
The college will begin to serve students with a certificate program of five courses in welding. More information about such new spaces and programs is often provided with brochure printing. Additional degree programs are being planned.
President of Rowan-Cabarrus, Dr. Carol S. Spalding, said that this is an ideal time for the opening of this new lab. Spalding added that the county continues to grow and draw many more diverse industries. She expressed her thanks for the support of the County and said she is looking forward to filling the needs of businesses looking for skilled employees, and preparing students for this needed and well-paying employment.
The welding program at the college is a certified LEEPS program of Lincoln Electric and a recipient of a grant in 2019 from the American Welding Society.
