David. S. Line and Josh Young, along with Cannon Pharmacy, have decided to keep a local tradition going strong.
For decades, the Jimmy Murphy Christmas was a well-loved custom in the Concord area, and he and a dedicated group of volunteers pitched in to help feed thousands of people. In 2013, due to ill health, Murphy presided over what he assumed would be the last such event, but he was wrong.
According to Young, he learned the details of the event through reading a book titled “Legendary Locals of Concord”, which is sold at the pharmacy. As he read, he became more inspired to do his own part to help those in need. He further remarked that he is proud to be able to honor Mr. Murphy by continuing his good work.
Since it is the first year he has been in charge of planning the campaign, he and the organizers felt that it would be a good idea to start off small. They hope to be able to provide between 1,000 to 1,500 people in need with Bags of groceries and toys for the kids. Holiday Cards that include a cheery message and detail the history of the program and the role Mr. Murphy played in it from the very beginning can help to let others know about how much he did to help the community. These can be included with each food parcel.
If things prove to be a success, the plan is for the program to be expanded in future years.Get a Free Quote for Holiday Cards Get a Free Quote for Bags
