Concord to rebuild intersection with innovative design

The city of Concord has negotiated a contract with Performance Managed Construction, LLC to build the Chestnut and Spring Roundabout.

This project will create a new design at the intersection of Broad Street, Spring Street, and Chestnut Drive that will be safer and more cost effective than similar designs of intersections. It is known as a Mini Roundabout Teardrop. This type of intersection will reduce the risk of fatal accidents by over 90% and enable the Transportation Department of the city to more efficiently and effectively maintain its infrastructure.

The word is often spread throughout the community about such road improvements by local Print shops with the use of Flyers and other mailers.

During construction of the intersection, the water main will be replaced, along with associated lateral lines and devices. The existing sidewalk, curbs, pavement, and gutters will be removed, all of which will enable the rebuilding of the road base and installation of new sidewalks, gutters, and curbing.

The intersection will also be closed with detours to facilitate access to their homes for residents in the area. Residents and motorists are being advised by the city to remain vigilant and alert for the duration of the project when in the area.

Construction is set to commence this month and is expected to be completed within six months.
