Concord to light up for the holiday season

Concord will be holding several events for the holiday season.

Poster printing is often used to promote seasonal events such as this throughout a community.

The first will be the annual tree lighting in Rotary Square sponsored by Atrium Health, Eli Lilly, and Uwharrie Bank. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there, along with other holiday traditions and a display of illuminated city vehicles which visitors can enjoy and vote for the one that is the most festive. Other activities will include a kids’ zone, food trucks, a kids’ train, a balloon artist, and crafts for kids in Santa’s village. There will be performances by Dance Expression, Zak Rushing Music, Motion Dance Company, and the Furr and Irvin Elementary Schools chorus on the main stage.

The 26th annual tree lighting will take place from 6:00pm to 8:30pm on Friday November 5. The tree will be lit at 8:00pm, with fireworks to follow at 8:20pm.

Meanwhile, the 95th annual Christmas parade will feature performers, bands, floats, and local heroes making their way through downtown Concord. The Grand Marshal of the parade this year will be John Howard Jr, a long-time civic leader in the community. Charles L. “Cy” Maulden will be the special guest of the parade. He is a veteran of World War II and will turn 100 years old in December.

The parade will take place on Saturday November 18 at 2:30pm.
