The Concord Friends of the Library are stringing up Banners and preparing for a very special program. Poetry and Music with Shelby Stephenson is being billed as a ‘can’t miss’ opportunity to listen to the works of North Carolina’s very own Poet Laureate.
Stephenson, a recipient of the North Carolina Award in Literature in 2001, was born and raised near Benson, where he grew up on a rural farm. He holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He worked as an editor of Pembroke Magazine and a Professor of English until he retired in 2010. In addition to his poetry, he has also released four music CDs with his wife, Linda.
The program will contain a selection of music and poetry readings personally selected by Stephenson, as well as a meet and greet afterwards. Also on the agenda is a review of the Friends of the Library’s 2016 events and programs. The event will also include coffee and dessert, as well as CDs and special booklet printings of the work available for purchase.
Poetry and Music with Shelby Stephenson will be held on January 21 starting at 1:00 pm at the Cabarrus County Concord Public Library, located at 27 Union St. North. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in more information should contact the library directly.
