The city of Concord has contracted Woolpert for its engineering and architecture services to create a master plan and conceptual design for the Northwest Concord Community Park.
The park will be on Cox Mill Road, across the street from Cox Mill High School, and next to Cox Mill Elementary School. The new park will be near the Concord Mills Mall and the Charlotte Motor Speedway and will be 28.6 acres in area. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the community of upcoming projects.
Katie Thayer, landscape architect and project manager at Woolpert, said that this project is a priority for the city. Thayer added that there is a great need for this park in a beautiful and growing area of the city. Once built, she said, it will be of great benefit for the community.
A site evaluation will be conducted by Woolpert to be followed by an outline of options for the park. A communications committee will be set up to solicit feedback from the community on the options through general public outreach and focus groups. The public will also determine what amenities it would like in the park which can include a splash pad, a dog park, walking trials, and community and meeting space, among others.
Thayer added that it is important to have input from the community so they can be part of helping to create the park that will serve people of all ages.
