Officials at the Concord-Padgett Regional Airport recently announced that the number of passengers taking commercial flights was up 21 percent in 2018 over the previous year and so set a new record.
Allegiant Airlines was responsible for this record and averaged 19 commercial flights per week for a total of 990 departures in 2018. Allegiant provides service to six destinations from the airport, including the recent addition of Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The schedule that runs through mid-August shows additional destinations in Florida, including Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa/St. Petersburg. Brochure printing is one way to make such schedules known to potential customers so they can make travel plans for summer vacations and other holidays.
Dirk Vanderleest, aviation director for the airport, said that everyone works hard with regulatory personnel and the airline so that passengers can enjoy an efficient, safe, and affordable experience. He added that this success will enable the airport to potentially bring more destinations to the airport for travelers.
Concord-Padgett Regional Airport opened in 1994 with a general aviation terminal and a runway 5,500 feet long. It has since been lengthened to 7,400 feet and was enhanced last year to handle the larger aircraft that are now in use. A commercial service terminal and parking deck have also been built. There are plans to improve the taxiways leading to the runway this year.
