A local radio station is bringing a popular group to St. Louis to rock the holidays.
Y98.1 FM is presenting its Deck the Halls Ball, and for the second night of the celebration, the Goo Goo Dolls will be the featured performers. Maddie Poppe is also on the bill.
Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac formed the Goo Goo Dolls in Buffalo, New York, in the mid-1980s. At first, the band was called The Sex Maggots, but some promoters and club owners objected to the name. The group hurried to find a new name and saw an advertisement for a “Goo Goo Doll” in “True Detective” magazine. They decided to use it temporarily, but fans loved it and it stuck.
They are an alternative rock band, and a review of a recent performance said they did a “fine job,” with Rzeznik singled out in particular for his strong vocal ability.
Maddie Poppe won the sixteenth season of “American Idol,” and is a singer and songwriter, as well as playing ukulele, guitar, and piano. She sings in the folk and indie pop genres.
The ball will be held at the FOX Sports Midwest Live! stage, located at Ballpark Village on Clark Avenue. The concert is at 8:00 pm on December 8, and the doors will open at 7.00 pm, with attendance limited to those 21 years of age and older. Poster printing is often used to advertise events like this.
