St. Louis orchestra to pay tribute to famous composer

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will put on a show in October to honor the works made by Stephen Sondheim.

A Little Sondheim Music is a performance where people can watch a live orchestra play iconic pieces from Stephen Sondheim’s career in musical theater. The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will be partnering with The Muny to hold the show. Ben Whiteley is the conductor of the concert, and vocal performances will be provided by five singers, including Ben Davis, Bryonha Marie, and Elizabeth Stanley. Ken Page will also make an appearance during the show.

Sondheim was a composer and lyricist who worked on many notable shows, such as Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and West Side Story. He has won several awards throughout his career, like the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Hutchinson Prize for Music Composition, and Laurence Olivier Award. Sondheim even became part of the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2014. He passed away in 2021 from cardiovascular disease.

The tribute concert for Stephen Sondheim will be held on Sunday, October 2nd at Powell Symphony Hall and will begin at 3:00 pm. Tickets for the performance start at $35 and will increase in price depending on the section of the theater. Those who coordinate celebratory concerts like this can use flyer printing to raise awareness for the tribute shows.
