Business co-founder honored for charitable work

The entrepreneur David Steward has received recognition for his contributions to business and philanthropy.

Last month, Steward was given the title of St. Louis Citizen of the Year for 2014. The firm he co-founded, World Wide Technology, now employs about 3,500 individuals. About 1,500 of these people reside in the region of St. Louis.

The firm now works with multinational corporations and government agencies. When it was created back in 1990, its name may have appeared ambitious, but it is now in a position to outsource some of its communications and it could choose to use printing services in St. Louis.

Steward has put some of his own money into educational institutions and the arts. He has also elected to donate resources to the United Way.

A recent report by the organization Charity Navigator found that St. Louis was a particularly charitable city. The nonprofit suggested that the city was the most generous of those assessed.

Steward has told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

ā€œI’m very proud of that because I think St. Louis gets a bad rap. This is a common ground that we come together on and we should be celebrating more.ā€

Andy Taylor, who played a role in honoring Steward, has claimed that it was an easy decision to make. Taylor has commented that St. Louis is fortunate to have the entrepreneur as a citizen, and mentioned the important local role Steward plays as a large employer.

Steward apparently learned a lot from his background, commenting that both his parents had an excellent work ethic.
