The St. Charles County Public Health Department has decided to extend the Women, Infants, and Children contract with the state.
The WIC program is set to last at least through next year as per the terms of the Senior Services and Health Department. It allows lower-income families access to certain foods that offer specific nutrition, and educates those families on eating well.
The main beneficiaries of the program are children who are five years or older, infants, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and women experiencing postpartum depression after giving birth. The program is also free for those who qualify. In order to receive WIC benefits, a family must be under a certain income in the state, and a doctor must have determined them to be at risk nutritionally.
County WIC offices are open from 8:30 am to 12 noon, then close for an hour before reopening at 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm. The building is in St. Charles at 1650 Boones Lick Road. An appointment is needed for services.
All buildings in the County have sites for mothers to breastfeed to aid the WIC program. The county health department and WIC program serve communities inside St. Charles County, such as Maryland Heights.
WIC offices often have Brochures made by the state, but a county office could benefit from business card printing so as to promote and disseminate information about services.
