Teen races for research

The Jingle Bell Run 5K by the Arthritis Foundation is just days away.

The race is a fundraiser for rheumatoid arthritis research. It will start in Maryland Heights at the parking lot of the Hollywood Casino, and will end in the same location. Runners can wear festive clothing and costumes. They are also encouraged to put bells on their footwear in order to ring them as they move. Interested runners can register at the St. Louis Jingle Bell Run website for $35 for adults and $20 for kids.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis patient Emily Goldstein will run in the race as she has done before, and around 30,000 people are expected to come to cheer her on as the race's teen honoree, including family, teachers, coaches, and friends. She has raised nearly half of her $5,000 goal, and states that her ailment has had a big impact on her life in both positive and negative ways. She runs cross-country and track and field, and hopes to major in nursing after she graduates from Parkway Central High School in 2018.

Goldstein started having symptoms at age three, and is one of 50,000 children from under a year old to age 16 suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.

The 5K gets underway at 8:00 am this Sunday, November 19. Flyer printing companies are often used to advertise this sort of fundraising event.
