Police and passerby save runaway pigs bacon

On Tuesday, August 30, police officers and a commuting woman were able to catch a loose piglet on the highway in Maryland Heights.

Sharon Reinhardt-Kirnbaur saw the pig at the edge of the Page Avenue Extension. After pursuing it over four lanes and shutting down much of the eastbound side with a police car, they were able to catch the animal in a blanket. It was transported to a veterinary hospital as its face was scratched. It is not known how the pig made it up to the highway or how he sustained the facial injuries.

Reinhardt-Kirnbaur and Maryland Heights police published the story on their respective internet pages. Reinhardt-Kirnbaur was going to work in the afternoon when she saw the baby pig at the guard rail. She pulled over, flagged down a passing officer, and together they tried to trap the pig several times before finally snatching him up.

When Reinhardt-Kirnbauer checked on the pig later, he had road rash but was otherwise healthy. She gave thanks to Kevin Stewart, the officer who helped her catch the piglet, and the Maryland Heights Police Department.
