Maryland Heights to hold group music lesson

A music instructor will offer a multi-day lesson this summer at the Elimwood Hotel in Maryland Heights.

The Weekend Jam Camp is a three-day experience where aspiring musicians can learn playing skills from an experienced teacher. The camp instructor is Larry Kernagis, a banjo and folk teacher at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago who has led several bluegrass jams. Kernagis will also participate in events like the Pickin’ in Parsons Festival and the Alaska Bluegrass Cruise. He has even held jam sessions at venues like the Country Music Highway Museum.

Students will learn about many subjects at the jam camp, such as harmony singing, bluegrass etiquette, and rhythm. The lesson plan used in the event is certified by Pete Wernick, a famous musician who founded the group Hot Rize in 1978. The Wenick Method in the course uses small group settings, beginner-friendly instruction, and low-pressure environments to help students learn how to play instruments. Intermediate musicians can also attend the camp.

The weekend music class will be held from Friday, May 31st to Sunday, June 2nd. The cost to attend Wernick’s lesson is $275 per student, though discounts are available for returning students. Participants will be sent a list of required course materials for the jam camp. People in charge of similar music programs may use brochure printing to make informative Booklets for their students to take home.
