Maryland Heights hydrants getting makeovers

Missouri American Water has hired Whitehead Brothers LLC to start coloring Maryland Heights’ fire hydrants.

Around 400 fire hydrants are set to be painted, all of which were put into place 50 or more years ago. Whitehead Brothers will remove the old paint with a sandblaster before adding a white primer and letting it set for a few days. It will then come back and repaint them. The town has let the Department of Public Works and any firefighting organization in the area know about the project, which should be finished in a few months.

According to Missouri American Water's operations supervisor Bethany Jenkins, many residents do not know that various colored caps on hydrants detail the size of the water main, meaning the hydrants cannot be random colors. However, residents do not need to be alarmed about the hydrants being white. It is part of revitalizing infrastructure in the town.

Missouri American water is owned by American Water and is Missouri's largest water utility owned by investors. Around 1.5 million residents rely on it for water and wastewater management. American Water started in 1886 and serves 14 million people in most of the US, as well as Ontario, Canada. Over 7,100 people work for the utility.

Flyer printing services can provide notices to put up near fire hydrants to reassure residents that the hydrants are in transition and not to interfere with them.
