The school system of St. Charles, which neighbors Maryland Heights, has disclosed its policy for free and reduced-price meals through a recent press release.
Reduced price or free meals are part of The National Program for School Lunches and the Breakfast Program for Schools. Students eligible for the programs are those whose families cannot afford school lunches. Students can pick up an application for reduced price and free school meals in the main office, fill it out, and bring it back to the same location. Dr. Charles Brazeale, the assistant superintendent of the school district, goes over the application according to the updated policy.
The information on all applications is strictly for informational purposes to determine eligibility and are confidential. Students can fill out an application throughout the year, but the application must have all the required information.
The required information is the family income including supplemental benefits like food Stamps, everyone living in the household, a signature, and the signer's social security number ultimate four digits or proof of no number. Despite residential household income, children in foster care might be eligible. Changes in income such as unemployment or the number of individuals in the household may change eligibility status. Families can fill out a new application if this happens.
A flyer printing service can quickly distribute information in English and Spanish to let parents know about new policies such as these.
