On April 9, Rose Acres Elementary School in Maryland Heights sought out volunteers to help build its garden and outside classroom.
Citizens could physically help with the program or donate money and supplies. The project started last year with a $5,000 grant from the Lowe's Toolbox for Education and the Pattonville Education Foundations grant for $1,800.
The week after, volunteers from pharmaceutical firm Pfizer visited the Rose Acres Elementary School's Soulfully Successful Scholars’ Club. Sharee Adams-Hall works at Pfizer and enlisted the help of fellow colleagues Mike Pearson, Kunle Onadipe, Chester Cain, Sidney Standifer, and Colleen Isele to give the students hands-on science knowledge.
Pfizer volunteers talked about themselves and the company before separating the more than 30 students into teams, where they experimented with density, tested acidity, and learned about chemical separation. Students were able to use simple household items like coffee filters, balloons, dish soap, and food coloring along, with professional science equipment like test tubes, dry ice, and pH strips.
Schools around the country rely heavily on outside volunteers to give children of the community the best education they can receive, with Rose Acres being particularly active here. If Print companies wanted to volunteer their services, they have several options. They could donate to the garden, create printed merchandise for a fundraiser, or have employees visit the school and talk to students about their industry.Get a Free Quote for Print
