Since the public has expressed a desire for root beer with a difference, O'Fallon Brewery and Fitz Bottling Co. have come out with Fitz Hard Root Beer. The product is set to come out later this month.
Jim Corczyca, President and CEO of O'Fallon Brewery, and Fitz owner Michael Alter spent time together to taste the final product. In attendance was also Brian Owens, Head Brewer at O'Fallon Brewery, and Johnny Pashia, Bottling Girector of Fitz. Alter commented that he appreciated the balance of the brew.
Alcoholic root beer is not a new concept, but most brewers of it did not start out with an established nonalcoholic product. Fitz's and O'Fallon want to incorporate the flavor of their root beer into a quality alcoholic beverage that beer enthusiasts would appreciate. After the root beer ferments for a week, it will go to grocery stores and bars, and will also be available at O'Fallon Brewery in Maryland Heights.
Hops, yeast, barley, and caramel malt form the beer, while vanilla, cane sugar, sassafras, and other spices go into the root beer. They are combined before the bottling process, and the labels and caps are different to the regular root beer for easier identification of the product.
The launch of a new product means additional advertising opportunities. O'Fallon and Fitz could create advertising products, such as custom Drinkware, for patrons who come into the brewery and try the beer.
